Judy Sarosik Gallery: Laura Maze

Laura Maze enjoys the challenge of manipulating layers of color, shapes, and patterns to bring about what could be into what is – a more detailed image.  She says her work often develops into themes of nature, such as trees, flowers, water, or buildings in a natural setting, Though contemporary in style these shapes often become somewhat identifiable.

Printmaking and painting both allow her to layer colors and shape into images.  Maze feels that one process lends itself to the other.  When printing, the process is immediate each time the paper is pulled from the plate, as is working with acrylic paint on a flat surface.  There are no preconceived drawings or sketches. It is this intuitive process that intrigues her.  Maze calls it a spontaneous development, triggered by her imagination and emotions of the moment.
