The historic ore dock at Marquette, Michigan’s Lower Harbor has been a source of inspiration for countless artists. This structure was used to load countless tons of iron ore onto waiting freighters, to be shipped to southern Great Lakes foundries. Trains would bring the ore from the iron range in the highlands, and drop the ore into chutes on the side of the ore dock. The chutes would swing down and in turn load the boats.
The ore dock was decommissioned in 1971, and has remained a beloved and inspiring historic and cultural landmark.
