This exhibition of photographs presented in handmade maple
frames is a unique collection of archival fine art platinum prints.
Described by the artist as ‘photographic light paintings’, made in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan over the last three years in Marquette, MI and surrounding area. Platinum Printing produces a timeless warm tone image on archival 100% cotton printing paper. The artist uses a fine brush to apply light sensitive emulsion onto the paper, then a contact negative is exposed using light.

This body of work found its name after the inland sweet water sea (Lake Superior) which has properly cast a spell over him, and the sweet water of the sugar maple which only runs after the long, dark winter. The images allude to both the harshness and tenderness that the land holds. Here is a place to believe in old, wild gods, and the ancient hum of the earth, which teach us we are indeed not in control. The work hopes to embody both grief & praise, the two poles and twins the artist holds as prayer.

“From Sweet Waters” will be hung in the Sarosik Gallery- a gallery inside The Gallery, which was established in honor of former member Judy Sarosik. Any funds will go to support young artists.

In honor of our friend and fellow artist Judy, the members of The Gallery Marquette are pleased to present the Judy Sarosik Rotating Gallery.

This mini-gallery within The Gallery will feature invitational and themed shows every 4-6 weeks.
