Artist’s Statement

As a child I was always drawing, cutting up whatever was handy to make my creations. Mother was skilled in needle arts, so I got my love of fiber from her. Art major at Michigan State University, studies focused on fine art and clothing design, and worked in gallery after studies, selling in art fairs. I relocated to Marquette in late 1976 from Ann Arbor. While my 3 sons were young, I returned to school to become a surgical technologist. Sadly, art went to back burner on simmer, 22 years later, back to being a full-time artist. I exhibit in regional art fairs and several galleries.

I use several different surface deign techniques to upcycle sustainable sourced clothing and fabric. With goal of keeping those out of our landfills and making the garment re-loved. Living in Upper Peninsula of Michigan provides unlimited inspiration. I see great Lake Superior from studio window, deep woods beckon exploration. I don’t try to make photographic representation, rather try to convey feeling I get from scene.
